The difference between a base that thrives and one that crumbles comes down to a few critical building decisions you make in the first hour. 1 Use Stone Foundations Always
Building directly on dirt or grass is a recipe for disaster, especially in wet biomes like the Swamp where ground saturation weakens wooden support beams over time. Stone is Valheim's only truly stable anchor point—it resists water damage and supports the weight of your structures indefinitely. When laying your base, dig down to expose the natural stone bedrock, then anchor your core support beams directly to it. This single decision will add months to your base's lifespan and eliminate the nagging dread of structural failure.
2 Position Your Base Near Multiple Biomes
A base placed at the intersection of three biomes—say, Meadows, Black Forest, and Swamp—gives you access to wood, ore, herbs, and boss spawn items without endless sailing.
